Rail Solution: The Steel Interstate

White paper detailing Rail Solution's "Steel Interstate" concept for moving trucked freight to electrified freight rail lines.


Step 1


The Rail Solution recommends that the use of the economic stimulus funds should include "Sustainable development projects by government" by building and maintaining infrastructure rather than having tax rebates for quality of life projects such as sport stadiums and park beautification projects.


Step 2


Page 2 of the Rail Solution states "As a nation our public policy position should be to encourage freight (and passengers) to be carried by rail whenever possible." The document goes on to describe the steps of the creation and maintenance of the "Steel Interstate" - a railway superhighway as Presiden Eisenhower envisioned.  The purpose being to create a "backbone for movement of both goods and people in the 21st Century".


Step 4


On page 3 of the document explains the impact of the Steel Interstate and how it related to the other modes of freight transport. The impacts (subsection) include international competiveness, electrification and energy independence, national security implications, energy efficiency, pollution reduction, health and safety, and other environmental and economic benefits.  The goal of energy conservation with low cost increase is doman throughout the conext of each subsection.
